How do the different Stock Sections work ?
We source vehicles through different methods:
1) CURRENT STOCK
These are vehicles that have been mostly handpicked (usually from auction or wholesale sources) by suppliers in Japan that we have used for many years and thus we have full confidence in the accuracy of their vehicle descriptions and their honesty. The buyers attend the Japanese auctions daily and inspect and bid on a great many vehicles to get this relatively small number of good examples at the best possible price.
Vehicles are checked over, started and run, and only vehicles that present well with no major faults are then bid on, and if bought are listed in our supplier's stock. Full pictures are provided and auction sheets are often available also. All known faults as they can be observed are listed and usually photographed if possible.
Many people prefer to buy from this source as they can see more pictures and details of the vehicle, and have a little more time to decide than with some other sources. The prices are also usually less than average auction prices because the suppliers will only buy a vehicle into stock when it is well priced in addition to being in good condition. Some great deals can be had through this stock section.
Our suppliers have many international clients including car dealers who make quick decisions and buy multiple vehicles at one time, so generally these vehicles do not last all that long.
The prices listed are not negotiable unless a vehicle has been in stock for a couple of months, in which case a small price reduction might be possible. But profit margins are very low so usually any reduction will only amount to a few hundred dollars and this would bring the price back to the actual cost price to the supplier.
The Current Stock section only lists vehicles that our buyers have in their yards at any point in time, it is by no means a full list of the choices we have available nor does it indicate the only models that we can source for you. It is a good starting point to check possible prices and if there is something suitable to you in this stock section then usually it will be at the best possible price and is worth buying right away. If you want a different colour, specification or kms etc. then we can certainly source you the perfect vehicle directly from auction (see below).
2) AUCTION DIRECT
We source a large number of vehicles every year to order for clients wanting something special, and we work very hard behind the scenes to ensure that vehicles are to the highest possible standard. Japan has over 80 auctions per week and over 100,000 vehicles per week being auctioned. Many of these are suitable for Australia and we can have vehicles of interest physically inspected by reliable buyers and then discuss each vehicle in detail with you, prior to bidding on your instructions.
The auctions in Japan are big business and things move fast.
The buyers we use are very experienced and our systems are set up so that we can move very quickly to physically inspect and then bid on vehicles once you let us know which are of interest to you. We have great success from auction and can source vehicles that you may not often see in stock, extremely low km vehicles for example or new models under SEVS that have only just become available for import.
Don't worry if you've not done anything like this before as we make it very easy. The person you speak to from day one will assist you throughout the whole process. Most clients end up really enjoying the hunt for their new car, and once we start excluding some vehicles that are not up to our standard you will quickly see that we are actually working very hard to ensure that the vehicle you do import will be the best choice possible.
You can see what's available at auction from Tuesday through to Saturday on our Online Auction site.
Even better, we can FREE TRIAL you on our fully automated Auction Alerts System which supplies even more detail (usually restricted to clients only) than is available through our online system. This will e-mail you all the auction vehicles of interest within the year and model range of interest. Auction sheets and pictures are provided on this system. Some sale prices are also available the next day, meaning you can check exactly what a vehicle is likely to cost you before you decide to proceed and import directly.
Just e-mail us at sales@prestigemotorsport.com.au and advise the make and model of interest and we will show you how it works with absolutely no obligation !
Please see here for an explanation of the Auction Grading system.

3) DEALER STOCK
We have an automated system that updates this section Daily with new vehicles as they become available on a large online Dealer network in Japan. Dealers list their vehicles on this system for a fixed price usually a few days before they send them to auction. Often they are hoping for a little more than the average auction price, so sometimes the prices are more than we would be prepared to pay since we know we could do much better for you at auction. However, sometimes prices are very reasonable and where this is the case and the vehicle is suitable, we can have one of our suppliers in Japan buy and export it for you.
We have seen some vehicles sell for more at auction than they were available for on this system, and many near new 2000 and up model trade-ins are listed so it is definitely worth browsing this section for vehicles of interest in case the perfect vehicle for you is lurking amongst the choices.
Due to the nature of the online Dealer system, Dealer Stock generally does not last long, often just a few days prior to being moved to auction (if not sold prior). Vehicles sell online at the click of a "Buy Now" button and this system has many thousands of members across Japan and also in other parts of the world so it is important to check our site for new stock daily and act quickly if you see something you like.
Please note that the prices online (for the Dealer Network section only) are the raw wholesale prices to which you must add the buyer's fee to export the vehicle plus transport, making the "FOB" or Free On Board price. Usually this totals about 160,000 yen, depending on the location, but this can vary. Prices of the vehicles themselves through this source are fixed and non-negotiable.
To determine your total costs in Australia based on the above FOB price, please use our online Import Cost Calculator
Please note that the pricing is set by the Dealers themselves which are not related to nor controlled by us in any way. Once vehicles go from Dealer Stock to auction, the auction process and the owner's reserve will determine the final price. This price may be higher or lower than the original Dealer Network price. Again, this is beyond our control. In our experience, if you see a vehicle of interest in Dealer Stock for what appears to be a reasonable fixed price, it is usually better to proceed rather than wait and take the chance that it will go to auction where other variables may affect the price and you may in fact end up paying more. That is, if it makes it to auction at all.

4) YAHOO! JAPAN
This is an interesting option for unique and modified vehicles and all sorts of older collector's item vehicles from private sellers. However, due to the risk of buying from a private seller, usually sight unseen, we would generally not source a vehicle from Yahoo that is intended for SEVS import unless the customer fully understands and accepts the risk of doing so.
So this is generally only used to source vehicles that are December 1988 or older, or are for race use.
